What is the Marketplace?
The Marketplace, sometimes called Obamacare, is a site where individuals and families can go to purchase qualified health insurance plans if needed. Most people that enroll in a Marketplace health insurance plan, qualify for cost savings programs that can lower their monthly premiums and out of pocket costs.
Why is this important?
This is important because the new health care laws require that everyone have health insurance. And if you do not have health insurance, you may have to pay a fine when you file your income taxes for 2016!
What are Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)?
Depending on household size and income, come may be eligible for a state program that offers free or low-cost coverage for you and your family. In most states, the programs are called Medicaid or the Children’s health Insurance Program (CHIP). Since Pennsylvania has expanded their medical Assistance Program (Medicaid) most individuals with low income will now qualify.
Þ You may be eligible for Medicaid if you are a single person making under $16,242 per year. And income limits increase with family size up to $33,465 for a family of four.
Important Dates to Remember
Marketplace Open Enrollment starts November 1st and ends January 31st each year. This is the time to enroll in a Marketplace health insurance plan. And if already enrolled, you are able to change insurance coverage during this time.
After January 31st Special Enrollment begins, in which you can only enroll if you have a life changing event.
